Unit 06: Receptive Vocabulary Pre-K

Receptive Vocabulary is the ability to understand words and language. Some children who have difficulty understanding oral language (words and talking) may appear to be understanding because they may be able to pick up keywords and get visual information from the environment or from gestures.

In the first few years of life, more than 1 million new neural connections form every second.* After this period of rapid proliferation, connections are reduced through a process called pruning, which allows brain circuits to become more efficient. A major ingredient in this developmental process is the serve and return interaction between children and their parents and other caregivers in the family or community. In the absence of responsive caregiving—or if responses are unreliable or inappropriate—the brain’s architecture does not form as expected, which can lead to disparities in learning and behavior.

Without image, thinking is impossible – Aristotle
The use of images can facilitate learning because often clarity and meaning are facilitated when ideas, concepts, and information are transformed into visual images and objects. Visualization is a framework of learning. Parents should help their children to play with the images because image and sound both they will receive as a bit of intelligence, and it will help them to build effective neural connections and develop their brain structures.
