There are 26 letters in English alphabet. These letters divide into two groups based on sound.

One group is Vowels and another group is Consonants
Although, there are many categories we can find in phonics. But we will discuss here mainly on these two categories.

In the alphabet we have five letters that are called vowels: ‘a’, ‘e’, ‘i’, ‘o’, ‘u’.

Vowel sounds directly come from LARYNXListen = স্বরযন্ত্র without stop or limit the flow of air in speech.

English is a vocal language and every word must have a vowel.
One of the challenging parts about learning to read and write in English is that one letter can make different sounds depending on its context.  Each vowel has at least two possible sounds.  Short vowel sounds and Long vowel sounds.

There are many rules in short and long vowels determination. But we will discuss here the basic rules only and we will discuss other rules in the next courses step by step.

BASIC RULES OF SHORT VOWELS

When there is one vowel in a word, either at the beginning or between two consonants, it usually has a short vowel sound. The short vowel does not say its name.

Word recognition is very important for the younger children even before they learn to read because they recognize every word as an image and it helps them later when they learn to read. At this age when they play with letters, words, images, and objects every input act as a bit of intelligence and helps to make structures in their brain.

Dialogue cards help children to see words, images, sounds, and translation in the native language. Parents should play with their children so that they can think its a game. First, let them see the image then listen sound and then turn the card and ask the name in English and vice versa. If they give the wrong answers, appreciate their effort, and ask to practice more.
